June 1st marks the start of hurricane season in Hawaii. The season runs till the end of November. August and September are historically the most active months for storms in the region.
The National Weather Service expects this hurricane season to be a “near or below-average season”. That equates to 2 to 5 tropical depressions, tropical storms, or hurricanes this year in this region of the Pacific. Direct landfall hurricanes are rare in Hawaii.
