On the first Friday of every month, nearly 30 trucks and vendors line up in rows near Petco at Waikele Center. What the Truck?! Well, yes! What The Truck?! is the popular food truck rally that’s not in town. I found cuisines from the Pacific, America and Asia represented in everything from overflowing dinner plates, to individually packaged treats and desserts. Not only food; vendors with merch like t-shirts and balloons market their wares too.

Safety protocols are in effect, which means you must maintain a six-foot distance from others and all guests over 3 years of age must wear a face mask. Consumption of food is not allowed inside the event, meaning all food is packaged to-go, but you can enjoy your purchases at your car and come back in for more.

What The Truck?! founder Debbie Montero began organizing monthly food events at Mililani High School in 2015 while she worked for the Department of Education. A longtime school staffer, she continued to organize the First Fridays at Mililani High and other campus improvement events until her retirement in 2018. What The Truck?! was born in 2019 after a vendor urged her to organize more events after her retirement and she has been producing these rallies ever since through her company, By My Standards.
