As of June 4th, the mayor of Maui County announced that they are ending the second COVID test. This was a free test by Maui to confirm negative COVID cases. The pre-travel test is still required.

This is not the pre-travel testing program that requires a negative COVID test 72 hours before departure from the mainland. The program started on May 4th. Since then, it has tested about 93,000 visitors and residents. About 28 tested positive with the rapid antigen test, but follow-up PCR test found 5 confirmed cases. So 5 confirmed cases out of 93,000. 0.054% positivity rate, less than the projected 1%. That is why they are ending the program. They have found the pre-travel testing program and vaccinations are working, they have statistical evidence.

No update on the vaccine exemption program as of now. The pre-travel testing program continues this summer. Subscribe to get updates!
